Mushfiq hits hundred as Bangladesh’s lead goes past 100

Mushfiqur Rahim struck an unbeaten hundred that aided Bangladesh to take a 102-run lead against touring Ireland at tea on the second day of the one-off Test at the Sher-e-Bangla National Stadium on Wednesday.

With Mushfiq unbeaten on 124, his 10th Test ton, and Shakib Al Hasan finishing with a 94-ball 87 alongside a 41-ball 43 coming from Liton Das, Bangladesh posted 316-5 to surpass the visitors’ 214 in their first innings.

 

Mark Adair and Andy McBrine each scalped two wickets while Ben White took one.

Bangladesh, who were trailing by 180 runs at stumps after Day one, resumed their inning with overnight batsman Mominul Haque and Mushfiq.

Muminul who stood on 12 could add five runs more before Mark Adair rattled his stumps in the day’s third over leaving the side reeling at 40-3.

Then Shakib and Mushfiq in the fourth wicket stand went untroubled until the day’s preliminary session adding 130 runs with the former hitting his 51st Test fifty from 45 balls with six fours and one maximum.

However, the Bangladesh skipper fell adding 159 runs subsequently the lunch as he gave a catch behind the stumps by McBrine.

In the next stand Mushfiq along with Liton formed a quick 84-ball 87 to boost the total prior to a soft dismissal of the latter by White.

Mushfiq’s hundred came just few overs before tea and the veteran campaigner remained undefeated with his fellow partner Mehidy Hasan Miraz, who stood on 18.
